ANNUAL GENERAL SHAREHOLDERS’ MEETING CONFIRMED RE-INVESTMENT OF PROFITS FOR THE COMPLETION OF MOCHOVCE UNITS 3 & 4

Bratislava, May 21st, 2010 – The Annual General Shareholders’ Meeting of Slovenské elektrárne, a.s. (SE) approved yesterday the 2009 Annual Report of SE, also containing the Financial Statements for year 2009. 

The positive performance of Slovenské elektrárne in 2009 is reflected in its strong financial results. As of the end of 2009, net profit reached 279.9 million euros. Revenues were 2,049 million euros, and  EBITDA totaled 827 million euros. Net debt was 187 million.

The General Shareholders’ Meeting also unanimously approved the Strategic Plan for 2010-2014. The company confirmed its decision to re-invest profits for the Completion of Units 3&4 of the Mochovce nuclear power plant.

Paolo Ruzzini, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Slovenské elektrárne commented: “The shareholders of Slovenské elektrárne, Enel Produzione S.p.A. and the National Property Fund of the Slovak Republic, unanimously approved our Strategic Plan. Strong financial results allow us to continue investing in new capacity for the energy security of the country, mainly in the completion of units 3&4 of the Mochovce NPP, while generating 4000 jobs”.

The General Shareholders’ Meeting reconfirmed Mr. Paolo Ruzzini as a Member and also as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SE. Mr. Eduard Strýček, after having served for one year as the Vice-Chairman, was appointed to the position of Chairman of the Supervisory Board (SuB). Mr. Carlo Tamburi was appointed Vice-Chairman of the SuB. The change was in compliance with the regular SuB rotation policy approved by SE shareholders.

Slovenské elektrárne, a.s. is the largest power generating company in Slovakia. After completing the privatization in April 2006 Enel S.p.A. owns 66% of the company and the remaining 34% is owned by the National Property Fund of SR, with its shareholders rights executed by the Ministry of the Economy of the Slovak Republic. Slovenské elektrárne, a.s. operates 5,693.24 MW of gross capacity. In 2009, Slovenské elektrárne generated almost 21,392 GWh of electricity in total. Net of own consumption of its power-plants, Slovenské elektrárne delivered almost 19,891 GWh of electricity into the power-grid. The generation share on net power output was as follows: 65.6% nuclear facilities, 22.3% hydro power plants, and 12.1% thermal power plants. Thus, Slovenské elektrárne increased its green-house gas free power supplies to 87.9% in 2009 from nearly 86.5 % reached in 2008. At the end of 2009 the company employed 5,335 people.

Enel is Italy’s largest power company, and Europe’s second listed utility by installed capacity. It is an integrated player which produces, distributes and sells electricity and gas. Further to the acquisition of the Spanish utility Endesa, Enel has now a presence in 23 countries with over 95,000 MW of net installed capacity and sells power and gas to around 61 million customers.
