Mochovce NPP: Initial phase of the cold hydro testing at Unit 3
Slovenské elektrárne is launching the initial phase of the cold hydro testing (“cold hydro”) of the primary circuit at Unit 3 of the Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant. Cold hydro will be one of the key milestones of the project.
"In this initial phase, we will perform several tests and carry out detailed inspections of systems, to prepare the primary circuit for the following stages of Cold Hydro," said Project Director of Mochovce Units 3 and 4 Francisco José Morejón Verdú. "Initial phase also involves flushing of passive and active emergency core cooling systems in specific sections of the primary circuit."
Following the completion of this initial stage, during Cold Hydro normal operating conditions will be simulated, whereby Unit 3’s primary circuit will be filled with water and circulated at high pressure and at 120 ⁰C by the reactor coolant pumps. The primary circuit will have to withstand pressure of 13.7 MPa for 60 minutes without any leaks.
