Energy Summer School

Following up on last year´s success of the Energy Summer School, Slovenské elektrárne and its partners worked hard on the 2nd year of the event. It took place in Slovakia from 26th June to 2nd July 2016.

The Energy Summer School was organized under the auspices of H.E. Maroš Šefčovič, Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Union, who decided to personally meet the students and discuss with them about their ideas on Europe’s energy outlook.

The team behind the Energy Summer School further extended its reach to include all Visegrad 4 countries. In 2016, the biggest energy generating company in Slovakia, Slovenské elektrárne, welcomed a group of 20 university students who speak excellent English, regardless of their field of study or degree.

The program of the event in terms of focus and topics is aimed at students studying in the Visegrad region or students coming from the region and studying abroadinterested in the regional energy sector and who plan to concentrate on this topic in their future careers.

The 2016 program is full of interactive workshops and discussions with high level representatives of the European and international energy sector, energy experts, analysts and journalists, while organizing visits to several power plants and installations that are normally off limits for public, with trainings and various social and networking activities.

All expenses (accommodation, board, programe, etc.) related to the Energy Summer School 2016 are covered by the organizer and his partners. Participating students are thus taking part at the event FREE OF CHARGE. The only expense to be covered by the participant is travel cost from his place of residence to Bratislava (or the venue of the Energy Summer School). Details can be found in the Statute of the Energy Summer School 2016.

The aim of the Energy Summer School is to inspire young people to study energy and to raise public interest in energy-related topics. It also creates a platform promoting mutual relations between energy companies, academics, NGOs, media as well as experts and analysts in the field of energy.
