The electricity price structure for the end consumer in Slovakia consists of three main components: the commodity, fees associated with transmission and distribution and system fees. The price of electricity as a commodity is set by the market without any form of regulation, while the other charges are regulated and set by decision of the Office for Regulation of Network Industries (ÚRSO). Within the system fees, the main part is used to support the use of renewable energy sources, the production of electricity from domestic lignite, the procurement of support services and the operation of the Short-Term Electricity Market Organiser (OKTE, a.s.).

Costs to transmission and distribution system operators are recovered through transmission and distribution fees. The price of electricity includes, in addition to the above, a levy on the National Nuclear Fund. The amount of the levy is set by a regulation of the Government of the Slovak Republic. In addition to these charges, excise duty is charged to the final consumer, except for households. All customers are also charged value added tax (VAT) under the relevant laws.
