Brownfield Nováky

Brownfield Nováky
Nováky Power Plants (ENO) form an important chapter in the history of power engineering in Slovakia. They started to be built in 1949, and the first electricity was supplied to the grid 4 years later - on 30 June 1953. The social order, the development in the sector and the change in environmental requirements for electricity production caused the decision to close the plant by the end of 2023.

The Nováky power plant will thus retire symbolically, in the year of the 70th anniversary of the start of its electricity production. The story of Nováky Power Plant will continue in the form of the Brownfield Industrial Park.

  • Total area of brownfield 280 ha, of which industrial park ~ 80 ha and tailings ~ 200 ha
  • Brownfield is equipped with a robust industrial and transport infrastructure
  • The existing buildings offer more than 260 thous. m2 of floor space - of which up to 10 thous. m2 for administrative use
  • Industrial premises with an area of up to 250 thous. m2
  • Brownfield ENO is in the process of transformation
  • We offer free administrative and industrial space for rent
  • SE owns three tailings ponds at the site - Original 45 ha, Temporary 95 ha and Definitive 60 ha. After reclamation, some of them will be suitable e.g. for the installation of photovoltaic panels for the production of green electricity
  • Brownfield ENO is located in the central part of Slovakia, Trenčiansky kraj, Prievidza district
  • The location is connected to the railway, road infrastructure, electricity distribution (110, 22 and 6 kV)
  • The site has existing infrastructure - industrial and drinking water, sewerage network, compressed air and IT distribution, the possibility of connection to the high-pressure gas pipeline near the site
  • Unused premises and buildings are suitable for rent

Type of park Brownfield industrial park with space, technology, buildings and robust industrial infrastructure.
Zoning plan The premises are run as an industrial area, warehouses and sludge pot.
Area A total of 280 hectares, including 80 hectares of industrial park area and 200 hectares of sludge pot.
Current coverage of premises by buildings ~50 %
Rail The length of the railway siding is 18.5 km with 52 switches. The railway siding is located within and outside the plant site (approx. 50:50). The operation of the railway siding is divided into a connection to the national railway and a siding at the ENO. The existing connection of the SE ENO siding to the national railway is located at the railway station Zemianske Kostoľany; there is a connection to the siding of Hornonitrianske bane Prievidza, a.s. (HBP), there is a connection of the HBP siding to the national railway line and a connection to the siding of Fortischem Nováky (currently unused).
Road connection Connection to the I/64 road, the R2 speed road is still in preparation

IT and communication Optical and metallic network - own wiring in the area Mobile connection of operators Optical network on 100 kV lines (ENERGOTEL) Metallic network underground cable Telekom, BTS Telekom, O2, Orange
Drinking water The main drinking water and domestic water supply pipes are two parallel pipes. The operator of the main water supply system is Stredoslovenská vodárenská vodárenská prevádzková společnost. Drinking water distribution is throughout the ENO building. The annual consumption before the shutdown was 90 thous. m3.
Raw water Water is supplied from Nováky. The 2 x DN 1000 route leads to the handling hub (shaft 15) and from there it is distributed around the plant. It is used as fire water (DN 400 - DN 100) and filtered water in the production process (DN 300 - DN 150). The annual consumption of surface water was 6-7,5 million m3 during the operation of the plant.
Sewerage and storm water drainage There are 16 WWTPs located along the site. From the WWTP, the cleaned water flows through the sewage pipelines located in the locality into the old arm of the Nitra River, the Roháč stream and the Hraničný stream. The number of inlet and connection manholes on the sewerage system is 273. The total length of the sewerage system is about 8453 m.
Compressed air compressor stations and on-site distribution lines
Natural gas A natural gas connection is not currently available at the ENO plant. However, the route of the high-pressure gas pipeline is located close to ENO, in the south at the beginning of the village Zemianske Kostoľany, approximately 500 m from ENO, and in the west behind the river Nitra, approximately 600 m from ENO. Parameters of the high-pressure pipeline: pipeline DN 300, PN 25, outlet gas pressure 1,56 - 2,2 MPa.
