In pursuing our vision and mission for Slovenské elektrárne, we declare our commitment to upholding the fundamental principles of health and safety, fire protection and the prevention of serious industrial accidents. Safety, in particular nuclear safety and radiation protection, which are its integral parts, is represented in the company management and is prioritised over production targets and commercial risk.
Every employee of the company bears responsibility for safety within the scope of their competences, responsibilities and powers. The company upholds the principles of safety culture and open communication in all its activities so that workers can freely raise safety concerns without fear of a negative reaction. The principles of defence-in-depth are applied to prevent potential risks or mitigate their consequences in the preparation of technical measures and activities related to the operation of nuclear installations.
Safety management is an integral part of the company’s integrated management system, which clearly and unambiguously defines the responsibilities and powers of line managers.
The ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle is applied to the management of personal doses, radioactive emissions into the environment and radioactive waste management with a view to continuous reduction in the radiation load in and around nuclear installations.
The company has in place an effective system of emergency preparedness, including training for participating staff and procedures that are continuously maintained and regularly practised. The selection, monitoring and evaluation of suppliers considers their approach to safety and fulfilment of qualification and quality requirements.
We engage in open dialogue with the public, supervisory bodies and local and regional bodies of central and local government.
All company employees have appropriate conditions for the protection of their health in the performance of work activities. The company promotes open communication and cooperation with employees, employees’ safety representatives, the occupational health service and the trade union and it motivates employees to participate in addressing health and safety issues.
Risks of work, including potential causes of serious industrial accidents, are identified and evaluated. Where risks are identified, measures are taken to minimise the danger to occupational health and safety, the environment and property.
Measures and quantifiable targets have been set and communicated for continuous improvements in safety which focus on minimising the impact of the working environment on workers’ health and the incidence of workplace accidents and moving towards our strategic target of a zero accident rate. Adequate material and financial resources are made available for achieving safety targets and fulfilling safety requirements, rules and principles, and increasing the training, qualifications and awareness of employees.

The development of production technology focuses on technology for electricity and heat production that reduces negative effects on employees’ health and safety. When implementing and evaluating safety policies, we ensure that the company meets all legislative and other requirements in the areas in question.
