In 2026, Slovenské elektrárne have once again secured their position among Europe’s climate leaders — for the fifth consecutive time. The prestigious Europe’s Climate Leaders ranking, compiled annually by the Financial Times in cooperation with Statista, once again places the company among those achieving the most significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Slovenské elektrárne are also the only representative from Slovakia and, according to available data, rank among the TOP 10 electricity producers in Europe.
According to Financial Times, Slovenské elektrárne are among the fastest decarbonising energy companies in Europe. Between 2019 and 2024, the company reduced its emissions by more than 91% and cut its emissions intensity at an average annual rate of approximately 44%. Slovenské elektrárne ranked 83rd out of 600 evaluated companies, confirming their stable position among Europe’s climate elite.
This repeated recognition is not a one-off achievement but the outcome of a long-term and systematic energy transformation. Slovenské elektrárne have been included in the Europe’s Climate Leaders ranking since its first edition and continue to demonstrate measurable progress in decarbonisation.
A key milestone was the phase-out of coal-fired generation at the Nováky and Vojany power plants, enabling the company to produce electricity without direct CO₂ emissions today.

As the largest electricity producer in Slovakia, Slovenské elektrárne play a key role in the country’s energy transition. Thanks to a generation mix primarily based on nuclear and hydropower, the company is able to deliver electricity with a minimal carbon footprint while supporting the decarbonisation of the broader economy.
At the same time, the company continues to invest in additional low-carbon solutions, including the completion of Mochovce Unit 4, flexibility projects, battery storage systems, and the development of small modular reactors (SMRs).
The repeated inclusion of Slovenské elektrárne among Europe’s climate leaders demonstrates that even a large-scale energy company can be part of the solution to climate challenges.
The Europe’s Climate Leaders ranking has been published by Financial Times and Statista since 2021. Each year, around 600 European companies are selected based on their achievements in reducing greenhouse gas emissions intensity.
In the latest edition, the evaluation considers not only the reduction in emissions intensity, but also the absolute reduction of emissions and additional factors such as climate commitments and transparency in reporting.
