Mochovce NPP consisting of four pressurised water reactors WWER 440/V-213 is located in the geographic centre of Europe – in the south Slovakia, between the historic towns of Nitra and Levice.
The Unit 1 has supplied electricity to the grid since the summer of 1998, Unit 2 since late 1999. In 2008, gross power output of each unit was uprated from 440 to 470 MW by 7% increase of the reactor power.
In 2020 and 2021 the electrical output of the Unit 2 and subsequently Unit 1 was uprated again to 500 MWe by replacement and modification of the secondary circuit components.
Each operating Mochovce unit delivers roughly 3.5 million MWh of electricity per year that equals to 13% of electricity demand in Slovakia, thus preventing over 3 mil. tonnes of CO2 emissions every year as compared to a typical coal-fired power plant.
Construction of the Units 3 has been completed and it was synchronised to the grid on 31 January 2023. The Unit 4 is in the final stage of completion before hydrostatic testing and its commissioning is planned two years after the Unit 3.
