Since 2008, the term Energy for the Country has been synonymous with social responsibility at Slovenske elektrárne. It includes philanthropic activities divided thematically into five energies:
life - charitable and social activities;
nature - protecting nature, the environment and preserving biodiversity;
education - promoting and developing education;
culture - development and protection of cultural values;
sport - prevention, health protection and development of sport activities.
Within the framework of the Energy for the Country programme, the company cooperates with a number of selected entities and institutions, with which it conceptually develops and supports projects at two different levels - national and regional, which includes activities in the vicinity of the Slovak Power Plants. Since 2011, all philanthropic projects are submitted and assessed through our page Energy for the country.
In 2011, the company established the Slovak Power Plants Endowment Fund in the Pontis Foundation. It is an additional instrument for financing projects in three specific areas:
The first area focuses on increasing energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in cities and towns.
In the second area is comprehensive financial and non-financial support to organizations’ dealing with homelessness, through networking of organizations’ that help homeless people to return to normal life, and also through support for low-cost housing.
The third area is the development of technical sciences by supporting students in secondary and higher education, by implementing their projects and research activities, or by motivating them to study technical professions.
In 2013, the Employee Grant Program was added to the portfolio of the Slovak Power Plants Endowment Fund to support employee volunteering.
The Foundation opens grant rounds for specific topics at regular intervals on www.darca.sk and an expert committee selects the best of the submitted projects, which are then awarded financial support. The donation strategy of the Foundation is closely linked to the idea of corporate social responsibility of the Energy for the Country initiative and is another means in the gradual implementation of the company's ambitious plan "to be a good citizen of Slovakia".
